A New Midtown Skyline: Massive Towers Proposed Near Eglinton

by Khoa Le

Midtown Toronto is on the brink of a major transformation. A new proposal from KG Group could dramatically reshape the skyline near Eglinton, bringing two massive 59-storey towers to the corner of Roehampton Avenue and Mount Pleasant Road.

Looking southwest to 299 Roehampton Avenue, designed by Kirkor Architects for KG Group

This project, located just steps from the soon-to-open Mount Pleasant station on the Eglinton Line 5, aims to replace an existing 12-storey rental building at 299 Roehampton Avenue. The development would introduce over 1,500 new rental units to the area, including a like-for-like replacement of the 218 units in the current building.

Designed by Kirkor Architects, the twin high-rises are more than just apartments. The proposal includes a 10-storey podium with extensive indoor and outdoor amenities, a rebuilt recreation centre, and even a new public open space for the community. The development is also designed with sustainability and modern life in mind, featuring tons of bike parking in addition to a four-level underground garage.

This isn't an isolated project; it's part of a significant high-rise boom happening all along the Eglinton corridor. With other towers up to 61 storeys already proposed nearby, the landscape of this bustling area is changing at a rapid pace.

For those who live in Midtown or commute along Eglinton, these changes are coming fast. This project represents a major shift towards a denser, more transit-oriented future for one of Toronto’s most dynamic neighbourhoods.

What do you think of this major development? Would you live in one of these towers? Share this with a friend who lives or works in the area and get their thoughts!

Let's uncover more of what makes our city great, together! connectivity. The project's success, in the long term, may depend on how well these future transit plans are integrated into the daily lives of its new residents. The future tenancy of the retail spaces, including whether the existing businesses will return, is still to be determined.
