Aburasoba 101: A Noodle Revelation

If you think ramen is the only game in town, get ready for a delicious plot twist. Aburasoba is often called “oil soba,” but don't let the name fool you—it's far from greasy. It’s a bold, broth-less experience where thick, springy, handmade noodles are tossed in a rich, complex sauce right in the bowl. The result is a vibrant, savory, umami-packed dish that lets the flavour and texture of the noodles truly shine.

From Nagoya to the 6ix

Kajiken’s story began in Nagoya, Japan, in 2010. Since then, it has cultivated a massive global following, exploding to over 100 locations worldwide. Their focus on quality and innovation even earned one of their U.S. shops a coveted Michelin recognition, proving that this isn't just fast food—it's serious, high-quality street food. Now, they've brought that same world-class standard and authentic Japanese street vibe to Toronto for their highly anticipated Canadian debut.

The Must-Try Menu

The menu at Kajiken’s North York location offers an impressive lineup of nine aburasoba options, ensuring there’s a perfect bowl for every craving.

  • For the Thrill-Seeker: You have to try the Homura. This spicy masterpiece is topped with minced pork and features a raw egg yolk. When mixed into the hot noodles and sauce, the yolk creates an incredible, creamy richness that cuts the heat perfectly.

  • For the Decadent Diner: Treat yourself to the show-stopping Wagyu Roast Beef aburasoba, featuring tender slices of Wagyu, crowned with crispy onions, and finished with a light yogurt sauce.

  • For Everyone Else: Don't worry if you skip the raw egg—the menu has plenty of delicious customization options. And yes, vegetarian diners are absolutely covered with flavourful plant-based choices!

Kajiken isn't just serving noodles; they're serving a piece of global street food culture. Now that they're officially open, it's time to head to North York and experience this incredible, Michelin-level aburasoba for yourself.
